The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has approved air about speculation about a major change in the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET). Unlike recent media reports, CTET will not be extended up to four levels in 2025 or 2026. Any such changes will be considered only after 2027, once the first graduation of the Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) enter into the tachore. Prior to 2027, four-level tests for teachers under CTET will have to read the following articles for more information about “NCE rules”.
No four-level CTET before 2027 confirms NCTE
NCTE Chairperson Pankaj Arora has clearly stated that CTET will not be immediately expanded to cover all four stages of school education. This explanation was claimed after several reports that the eligibility test would soon include teachers for classes 9 to 12.
Arora insisted that the system is not yet ready to operate four-level CTET. The reason for this is simple- India has not yet trained teachers for all four phases under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 structure. This change will come only once, once the first batch of ITEP graduates, which is trained for multi-step teaching, is available in 2027.
What is the current CTET exam structure?
Currently, two letters- Paper I and II are conducted by CTET Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Currently there is no CTET for classes 9 to 12. For secondary-level teaching, candidates should receive postgraduate degrees in relevant subjects, completing a graduate (B.Ed.), and qualification in recruitment examinations conducted by state or central officials. Here is the curement structure:
- Paper 1- For candidates with the aim of teaching classes 1 to 5.
- Paper 2- For candidates to teach classes 6 to 8.
What is the role of ITEP in teacher education reform?
The Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) launched in 2023- 24 is a four-year dual-mazer degree that merges with teacher training with subject expertise. This NEP 2020- Founder, preparation, according to the middle and secondary, furnishing graduates to teach in all four stages of school education.
Currently introduced in selected central and state universities, NITs, IITs, and other institutions, ITEP admission is conducted by the National Test Agency (NTA) through the National General Entrance Test (NCET). By 2030, NEP 2020 states that four years of integrated B.Ed. All school teachers will have minimal qualification, and the teacher eligibility test (TET) will be extended to cover all stages.
What is the implication of delay in four-level CTET exam for candidates?
For now, candidates targeting classes 1 to 8 should clean CTET paper 1 or paper 2 depending on their level. People who target classes 9 to 12 will still follow the current route- postgraduate qualifications, B.Ed., and separate recruitment tests.
The delay of 2027 gives candidates more time to plan their qualifications. This also means that in many stages, those interested in teaching should consider admission in ITEP, which will be central for eligibility after introducing four-level CTET. Till then, the structure of the CTET remains unchanged, and aspirations should focus on the current format to secure teaching positions.
