UGC NET Eligibility Criteria

1. Candidates who have appeared for their qualifying master’s degree (final year) examination and whose results are still awaited, UGC NET education can appear in the UGC NET 2025 examination according to the eligibility.

Candidates who have scored at least 55% marks in the master’s degree or have given equivalent examination from universities/ institutions recognized by humanities (including languages) and social science, computer science and applications, electronic science, etc.
2. Ph.D. degree holder: Ph.D. Degree holder whose master level examination has been completed by 19 September 1991 (despite the declaration of results) will be eligible for a 5% discount in total marks (ie 55% to 50%) to appear in the net.
3. For transgender category: Transgender category fees, age, and UGC NET will be eligible to rest equally in JRF eligibility (ie JRF and Assistant Professor), as available for SC/ST/PWD categories. The subject-wise cut-off for this category should be the lowest among those for SC/ST/PWD/OBC-NCL categories in this subject.

UGC net eligibility for assistant professor
- There is a minimum eligibility requirement for recruitment and appointment as assistant professors in NET/SET/SLET universities, colleges and institutions. Exemption from NET/Set/Slate is ruled by UGC rules and any amendment notified in India’s Gazette.

UGC Net Eligibility for SC, ST, OBC and Jean
