IBPS to Use Aadhaar Authentication for Exams

The Department of Financial Services (DFS), the Finance Ministry has taken an important step towards improving transparency and impartiality in the recruitment process for banking examination. In a recent notification, the government has authorized the institute of banking personnel selection (IBPS) to use the base-based certification including Yes/No Verification and E-KYC certification to verify the identity of candidates during recruitment and examination processes.

IBPS to use base certification for exams

The Aadhaar Authority for IBPS examinations follows the approval from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity) after consulting India’s Unique Identification Authority (UIDAI). It brings an additional layer of security and integrity.

One of the biggest challenges in public recruitment examinations is fraud, which often leads to undesirable candidates entering the system and people are incorrectly eliminated. With the base-based verification, the IBP can now ensure that the person who registers for the exam is the same person for the same person, thus significantly reduces the chances of copy or proxy candidates.

Increase security in IBPS recruitment

This initiative holds the IBP under the category of ‘Public Examination Authority’ under the new enacted Public Examination (Prevention of unfair means) Act, 2024, 2024, a structure designed to compete in competitive examinations.

In addition, since the base system is associated with biometric and demographic data, even basic yes/any authentication can effectively validate the candidate’s identity without disclosing individual details. This verification maintains secrecy by increasing accuracy.

Authority for Aadhaar-based certification by IBPS is a progressive step towards ensuring fairness, transparency and safety in public recruitment examinations.

Voluntary Use of Aadhaar for IBPS exams- not compulsory

It is important to note that the base authentication will be used on voluntary basis. This means that candidates who do not want to certify using Aadhaar will still be able to participate in the IBPS recruitment process using other approved identity documents. The purpose is not to impose, but to provide smooth, fast and safe verification for those who choose to use the base.
