How to submit UGC NET application form 2024 online?

UGC NET Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for UGC NET December 2024 are given below to help the candidates ensure compliance before applying for the examination.

  • Educational qualification
    • General/Unreserved/General-EWS Candidates: Must have obtained at least 55% marks in Master’s degree or equivalent from a UGC recognized university. Eligible subjects include humanities, social sciences (including languages), computer science and applications, and electronic sciences.
    • OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PWD/III Gender Candidates: Must have obtained at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s degree or equivalent.
  • Candidates are waiting for the results
    • Candidates pursuing master’s degree or awaiting final year results can also apply.
    • Provisional admission applies; Eligibility for JRF/Assistant Professor is confirmed only after securing the required marks (55% for General, 50% for reserved categories) within two years of the declaration of result.
  • Relaxation for third gender candidates: Third gender candidates get the same relaxation in fee, age and eligibility as SC/ST/PWD candidates. The subject-wise qualifying cut-off for this category will be the lowest among reserved categories.
  • Exemption for PhD degree holders: Ph.D. Holders whose master’s degree was completed by 19 September 1991 get a relaxation of 5% in the total marks, reducing the requirement to 50%.
  • Subject of examination: Candidates must appear in their postgraduate subject. If the subject is not listed in the UGC NET subjects (Appendix-II), they can select a related subject.

  • Provisional eligibility for four-year program students: Candidates in the final year of a four-year undergraduate program can apply provisionally. JRF eligibility is dependent on completion of UGC Ph.D. Rules within two years of NET result declaration.
  • Selection of topics: Candidates with four-year undergraduate degree can choose any of the subjects listed in Appendix-III for UGC NET, irrespective of their undergraduate discipline.
  • Age Limit:
    • Candidates applying for JRF posts should not be more than 30 years of age
    • There is no upper age limit for admission to Assistant Professor posts and Ph.D. Program.
